Major Ingrid Kandy (retired) was assigned to the 126th Medical Group in the Illinois Air National Guard at Scott Air Force Base, IL and served as the Critical Care Air Transport Nurse and Officer in Charge of Immunization Services. She entered the 126th Air Refueling Wing in May 1997 at O’Hare International Airport as an Aeromedical Technician. Her first deployment was medical support for the 126th Security Forces Squadron in Lac, Albania in 2001. This deployment was a multi-national exercise involving the United Nations. She performed numerous food preparation inspections, monitored water safety and attended to heat related stress injuries. In 2004, Major Kanady participated with the MDG in providing medical support at Rosebud Indian Reservation specifically in the optometry clinic. After finishing a Bachelors degree in Nursing, she pursued a direct commission in the Nurse Corps. In 2006, Major Kanady deployed with the Air Refueling Wing to Incirlik Air Base in Turkey as the Squadron Medical Element for OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. She has participated in many events with the Homeland Defense Initiative through CERF-P including supporting the G-8 Summit in Chicago in 2012. In 2013, she became fully qualified as a Critical Care Air Transport Nurse. The CCATT initial training is the only skill validation platform for medical careers in the Air Force. Major Kanady retired honorably on 31 May 2017. Currently, she works as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in open and endovascular Neurosurgery. She continues to be dedicated to serving other veterans in her VFW and American Legion Post and providing a voice to female service members via the “Save It For The Drive” podcast.
